ABOUT US!
Patrick Veale

Yes that's me. Patrick Veale the proprietor of this establishment. As you can see I don't work in exotic surrounding but it gets the work done. I am 46 yrs old and feel it most days.
I left school at 16 and joined the Royal Air Force and trained as an Engine Fitter. After I qualified I worked on the English Electric Lightning and the F4 Phantom. In 1977 I had a motor cycle accident and broke my back, ending my Air Force career. I worked for British Airways for a short time before coming 'home' to work in the local gun shop in 1979 and I have been here ever since. I worked for Lance Nicholson, then became his business partner and eventually my wife Jackie and I bought the business in 1984 and employed Lance. Unfortunately Lance died in 1996.
I am married to Jackie and have 2 children Warren (15) and Miranda (12)
We now employ James Hughes as manager and run the shop between us.

James Hughes

                                       James repairing a fishing rod.

James joined us in 1998 and soon became familiar with the running of the shop. He has gained considerable skills in Fishing Rod making and repairs and is well on his way to becoming proficient in many aspects of gun repairs.
Being younger he has many computer skills to bring to the business and it is him I turn to when the computer doesn't do what I want it to.

We are a Barbour stockist, and have been for over twenty years. We can't stock all of Barbour's products but we do our best, if we haven't got it in stock we can get it for you. Barbour are constantly changing their range of products so are rather difficult to keep up with at present. Please look at our Barbour page for goods in stock and Special Offers page for some bargains.
Barbour also offer a full repair and re-proof service with which we would be happy to assist you with.
We also stock Puffa Products and the famous
Tilley Hats and Clothing.

We sell a wide range of fishing tackle and gun products and other accessories as well. Guns include Shotguns, Rifles and Ammunition. Most gun repairs are done on the premises, we would be pleased to quote for major renovations to routine servicing. We make our own range of Fishing Rods built on Hardy 'Fibatube' blanks, using best quality fittings and a locally made cloth bag. We also repair Split Cane Fly Rods and carbon fibre rods.

Should you be visiting the Westcountry for fishing or guns I would be happy to advise where and when to go and what to bring with you. Our local rivers, the Exe and Barle are traditional moorland rivers providing good sport for wild, small, brown trout throughout the season. The Exe also produces a good run of autumn grilse usually starting in August until the end of the season, 30th September. The river Taw is an earlier spring river producing some bigger spring salmon and from approx. June onwards healthy runs of Sea-Trout. Wimbleball Lake is a well know 370 Acre stocked lake with an active fishing club. Click the link for more information. Also near to us are Clatworthy Reservoir, Exe Valley Fisheries and Bellbrook Fishery.

Our squirrel traps are very popular in the spring and autumn when squirrels are most active. Squirrels cause a lot of damage not only to plants, flowers and song birds but also to buildings and property.

Classic Canes supply us with a large range of walking sticks, hopefully something for everyone. Walking sticks are not only used as an aid to walking but as every stick is different they are now a fashion accessory and used just for comfort.
